Important Race Information
Welcome and thank you for your participation in the annual Tri Kids Tri. This event was created to expose kids to the wonderful sport of triathlon, a sport that helps maintain a healthy and fit lifestyle for adults and kids alike. This event also raises necessary funds for other children’s programs here at the AJCC in Long Beach as well as raising money for the Challenged Athletes Foundation.
Please go over the following course information with your child prior to the race.
- Body Marking-All participants will be body marked with their race numbers prior to the race start
- Helmets are mandatory for all children.
- Race numbers-The large race number must be worn for the bike and run portion of the race. The other two numbers in the race bag: One sticker goes on the front of the helmet and one will go on the right hand side of the bike on the top tube(right hand side if you are on the bike)
- No Passing Zone-On the back portion of the bike course, there is a NO PASSING zone on the bike,please explain to your children that they are not permitted to pass in this zone.
- Speed Bumps-there are some speed bumps throughout the parking lot, please make your children aware of these potential hazards.
- There is a NO DRAFTING rule on the bike. Each participant must remain several bike lengths behind the bike in front of them.
- PASSING on Bike-Passing on the bike is on the LEFT only. Please have your child call out “On your left”
- Staying to the right-Please explain to your kids that they need to stay to the far right of the bike course unless they are passing so that others may pass them on their left side.
The Course
The Swim: Ages 9-14, 100 yds(4 pool lengths), Ages 5-8 50 yds(2 pool lengths) The swim portion of the TriKidsTri is done in the Alpert JCC outdoor pool. Lifegaurds are there to assist the children with kickboards if needed.
The Bike: Ages 9-14, 6 laps(about 3 miles), Ages 5-8 3 laps(about 1.5 miles) The bike portion of the TriKidsTri is done using a closed, car free parking lot, 1 lap is approximately 1/2 mile.
The Run: Ages 9-14, double "out and back"(about 1 mile) Ages 5-8 single "out and back". The run portion of the TriKidsTri is done on the outside perimiter of the facility parking lot.
